On the Structure of the so Called 5-methyl Glucose of Ohle and Von Vargha

چکیده
In continuation of the work on the nature of the glycoside formation in the partially substituted sugars,’ a study of the 5methyl glucose described by Ohle and von Vargha2 was undertaken by us. On the basis of previous experience, a substance of this structure was expected to form but one glucoside, the furanoside, and it was therefore surprising to find indication of the formation of two glucosides. These were formed, moreover, at approximately the same rates as in the case of unsubstituted glucose. The formation of two glucosides from 5-methyl glucose would require either the existence of glucosides with ring structures other than < 1, 4> and < 1, 5 >, or else the migration of the methyl group in the course of glucoside formation. Further study, however, has convinced us that no irregularity had occurred but that instead an incorrect structure has been assigned by Ohle to his substance, which in reality is 6-methyl glucose. The following observations led to this conclusion. The osazone of the substance described by Ohle has a melting point (180-185”) which is very close to that last reported for 6-methyl glucosazone (184-187” corrected).3 The rotation of the osazone of the “5methyl” glucose was reported as 101.9” in pyridine,2 and this we have confirmed. However, in alcohol the “5-methyl” glucosazone has initial and final rotations of -70” and -44’ respectively. These values are practically identical with those reported by

Cytotoxic Glucose Degradation Products in Fluids for Peritoneal Dialysis
During the standard heat sterilization process of the lactate–buffered peritoneal dialysis solutions, glucose (an osmotic active substance) degrades to form compounds called glucose degradation products which are cytotoxic and affect the survival of the peritoneal membrane. This case presentation is based on an observation of 224 aseptic peritonitis cases of unknown etiology. For the purpose of...

متن کاملEffect of S-Methyl-L-Cysteine on Oxidative Stress, Inflammation and Insulin Resistance in Male Wistar Rats Fed with High Fructose Diet
Background: S-methyl cysteine (SMC) is a hydrophilic cysteine-containing compound naturally found in garlic and onion. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the protective effect of SMC on oxidative stress, inflammation and insulin resistance in an experiment of metabolic syndrome. Methods: Male Wistar rats were divided into five groups (6 rats in each group), namely; control, cont...
متن کاملThe James and von Neumann-Jordan type constants and uniform normal structure in Banach spaces
Recently, Takahashi has introduced the James and von Neumann-Jordan type constants. In this paper, we present some sufficient conditions for uniform normal structure and therefore the fixed point property of a Banach space in terms of the James and von Neumann-Jordan type constants and the Ptolemy constant. Our main results of the paper significantly generalize and improve many known results in...

6-Methyl- 1,2,4-triazine-3-(2H)-selenone-5(4H)-one(l) reacts in the presence of base with phenacyl bromide to give a mixture of compounds (2) and (3). This mixture is dehydrated in the presence of H,SO, to give 3-phenyl-6 methyl-7H-selenazolo[3,2-b] [I ,2,4] triazin-7-one (6). For careful structure assignment of (6) its regioisomer 3-methyl-6-phenyl-4H-selenazolo [2,3-c] [ 1,2,4] triazin-4-one...
